Facts:
1. An owls skeleton weighs less than its feathers.
2. Raptors cannot move their eyes in their sockets.
3. Raptors have up to 3 eyelids, including the translucent nictitating membrane.
4. Some owls eat over 11,000 mice in their life.
5. Swainson's and Broad-winged hawks fly thousands of miles evey year during their migration.
6. Mississippi Kites can catch and eat insets in the air.
7. At two weeks old, some owls weigh twenty times what they weighed at birth. They then can even double that in another month.
8. The osprey dives feet first.
9. An osprey's cere can cover the nostrils while under water.
10. Adult Cooper's hawks, sharp-shinned hawks, and northern goshawks have red irises.
11. Some hawks can see mice from 100 feet up.
12. Ferruginous hawks somtimes scare coyotes away from the nest.
13. Merlins sometimes copy the flight pattern of pigeons.
14. Some owls can plunge into snow to aquire prey.
15. While diving, peregrines can reach over 200 mph. Making it one of the, if not the fastest animal in the world.
16. Harris Hawks live in family groups, they also hunt in 'packs' too, this is unique to raptors.
17. The scales on Secretary Birds feet help protect from poisonous snakes.
18. The peregrine falcon is one of the most widespread raptors of the world, on every continent except Antarctica.
19. There are no raptors inhabiting the continent of Antarctica
20. Large owls may make eagles abandon a nest so they can use it
